As a partner and owner of Ballek’s Garden Center in East Haddam, Connecticut, Nancy has devoted much of her career to helping gardeners better understand plants, gardening practices, and the natural world.  A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Nancy earned her degree in Environmental Horticulture and Landscape Design in 1978, graduating summa cum laude.

Throughout her career, Nancy has become known not only for her extensive horticultural knowledge but also for her ability to share that knowledge with gardeners of all experience levels. Her presentations have covered a wide range of topics, including native plants, pollinators, sustainable gardening, houseplants, garden design, new plant varieties, and edible gardening. Nancy is also the author of The Gardener’s Book of Charts, Tables & Lists: A Complete Gardening Guide, a practical reference created to help gardeners make informed decisions about selecting, growing, and caring for plants.
